  • A guided tour of the site and engines.
  • An opportunity to look around our Great Stink exhibition and extraordinary collection of toilets.

Visits last around 2½ hours and cost £10 per head with a minimum charge of £100 for groups of 10 or less. Accompanying staff are free of charge. Parking for coaches and mini-buses is available on site.

Work Experience and Volunteering Opportunities for students

Crossness offers a range of opportunities for students to gain experience in front of house roles, tour guiding, catering, marketing and heritage learning.

For further information or to book a visit, please contact the Crossness Learning and Outreach officer via

For Schools

Crossness offers educational visits for primary, secondary and SEND school pupils. All visits include a tour of the engines, and your choice of hands-on activities and demonstrations linked to history, geography, science and maths. There is also the opportunity to explore our Great Stink exhibition, with self-led trails available.

School visits take place on days when we are not open to other visitors. This gives you exclusive use of the site, including indoor lunch space. If you are travelling by coach or minibus there is ample parking onsite.

Visits cost £100 per class. We can accommodate up to two classes per day. For more details or to make a booking please contact the Learning and Outreach Officer on

If you are a SEND school, or a local school within three miles of Crossness, and this cost is a significant barrier to your visit, please get in touch.

For Families

We provide free craft activities for all families visiting on our Open Days. The activities are designed for children and their adults to make and create together in a supportive and fun environment.

Each ‘make and take home’ activity explores a different theme related to the Crossness story and participants are introduced to a range of materials and techniques.
