About this project

Technical drawings and diagrams show how Crossness worked and changed. Among the holdings are large prints from the works, including mid-twentieth-century process plant drawings printed in ink on cotton.

Many arrived damaged: tears around fixings, insect holes and long-term water staining. Volunteers help stabilise damaged items so they can continue to be used for research and, where suitable, display.

It is quieter work than a Steaming Day, and just as important: paper and cloth hold the story of how the plant once ran.
