Care and demonstration of smaller engines and industrial kit.
About this project
The Valve House contains a varied collection of smaller engines and industrial equipment. Volunteers look after the machinery and demonstrate selected engines when conditions allow.
Many engines were rescued from other sites, often in a poor state, then stripped down, restored and re-erected. Displays also include equipment once used by Thames Water to record tides and check for leaks, a large wooden pattern for casting flywheel sections, and historic belt-drive gear.
The Valve House is part of the same volunteer programme that keeps the Beam Engine House alive.
