See how London's sewers worked, then tour the site with one of our enthusiastic guides.
Why come?
Explore Crossness with one of our enthusiastic expert guides: people who know the engines and ironwork, the odd corners and the stories. Things kick off with a short film which is followed by a talk utilising our working (pumping!) model of Bazalgette’s sewers and pumping stations. You’ll then meet your guide and go around with them.
Tours last around 2 1/2 hours.
On the day

- A tour of the Beam Engine House and surroundings with one of our guides
- Ness Café and the gift shop
- Take our volunteer-run narrow-gauge RANG Railway (opens in a new tab) from the visitor entrance to the museum.
Good to know
- When: Fortnightly on Tuesdays, 11:30am–2pm. Dates are on the calendar.
- Who for: Adults and older children who enjoy a structured talk and walk.
- Getting here: Drive or take a taxi from the station to the visitor car park, as the walk is quite far. See Getting Here for more details.

Getting Here
There is no free vintage bus on this tour. Most people drive or take a taxi to the visitor car park. Open a tab below for how you are travelling.
Abbey Wood Station is the closest station (Elizabeth Line, Southeastern and Thameslink).

Park in the visitor car park on Bazalgette Way, then walk in through the pedestrian entrance. Taxis can use What3words charmingly.cure.tone (opens in a new tab).
- This is the usual arrival. A taxi from Abbey Wood Station can drop you at the same car park.
From Abbey Wood Station it is about a 40–45 minute walk. A taxi to the visitor car park is quicker.

- The Thames Path Gate (opens in a new tab) is usually shut on tour days. Use the walking route from Abbey Wood Station.
We are within cycling distance of Woolwich, with Uber Boat, DLR and Elizabeth Line connections. The Thames Path is a pleasant ride along the river.
There is secure cycle parking on site, by the large pond next to the Thames Path.

Blue Badge bays sit beside the pedestrian gate in the visitor car park on Bazalgette Way. From there, a handrail path leads towards the railway when it is running.
